The Church of St. Peter
On a local level, we run a Food Bank that serves hundreds of families. We provide financial support to local programs such as a School Breakfast Club, women’s shelters, youth and children’s programs and the hospital chaplaincy program. On a national level, parishioners participate in the Cancer Relay for Life. On an international level, we help support a family in India to gain financial independence and self reliance through the Save-A-Family Plan. Our FaithWorks donations support social outreach programs within the Diocese of Toronto. At Thanksgiving we have a fresh fruit and vegetable food drive for local community shelters and at Christmas there is our annual toy drive.
The Food Bank's hours of operation are Tuesdays between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. It is not open on the 5th Tuesday of the month and is open on alternate Tuesdays in July and August. The Food Bank services residents of south Oshawa (south of the 401).
Parishioner volunteers organize and run the Food Bank. Donations of food items or funds to purchase them are always needed. Please contact Ann Arnold, Glenn Godfrey or Dean Rose if you can arrange a regular or one-time source of food or funds with a school, retailer, service organization or community group.
Save a Family Plan
The Save-A-Family-Plan in India works to empower families by promoting their participation in sanghams (community-based organizations) and enabling them to achieve economic independence so that they become self-reliant families and stronger members of the community.
Through the Save-A-Family-Plan, St. Peter’s has been supporting a family in India since 2001. This is our second family - the first one achieved their goal of becoming self-sufficient in 2007. Our family lives in the province of Kerala. They consist of a mother, father, two children and grandparents.
St. Peter’s annual cost for the SAFP program is $240. We ask for people to donate a few dollars so together we can meet this annual commitment. Please see Yvonne Smith if you would like to help.
When you donate money to St. Peter's Outreach fund, it is used to support local charitable organizations such as:
